incidents marred Wednesday outside the prefecture of Ille-et-Vilaine manifestation of farmers in Rennes. Some of them dumped the waste at the entrance of the administration, the police did their side tear gas.

Many farmers driving their tractors and agricultural machinery, were freed by midday commitment union officials not to leave the Rennes ring road, a gathering place for demonstrators. Sixty of them gathered in the immediate vicinity of the Prefecture, with some dumpsters loaded with waste. They then poured the contents.

Straw was burned on the roadway. One protester also tried to enter the grounds of the administrative building, pushing the gate with his tractor. The police responded by firing several tear gas and pushed the protesters away from the prefecture. They conducted an inquiry.

This arrest has raised tensions a notch. According to France Bleu Armorique, farmers had to release the ring road now demanding the release of their colleague failing to stay put.

Two days after a large demonstration in Vannes (Morbihan) the city of Rennes was the theater of a new gathering of angry farmers, during a meeting between the presidents of the FNSEA and Young farmer with Prime Minister Manuel Valls. After the meeting, Manuel Valls announced in the National Assembly a drop of seven points in social contributions of all farmers and a “social lost year” of social security contributions for those having reached very low revenue in 2015.
