PARIS, May 3 (Reuters) – Dassault Aviation, who will sign on Monday a contract of sale of 24 Rafale with Qatar, said “possible” to achieve further sales his fighter plane in 2015, says CEO Eric Trappier in an interview with Le Figaro.
The contract with Qatar, amounting to 6.3 billion euros including armaments, concerns 24 aircraft with an option for 12 more.
It will bring to 84 the number of planes sold in 2015, before which the Rafale had never exported.
A contract for 24 aircraft was signed with Egypt in February and an agreement was reached for the delivery of 36 aircraft to India, with whom the contract is being finalized, a “matter of weeks a few months, “according to Eric Trappier.
“We will not stop there! We will continue to work tirelessly for further success,” said the head of Dassault Aviation in Le Figaro to be published Monday.
“Other countries have expressed interest in the Rafale. We are working on it. Signing other contracts in 2015? Yes, it is possible,” he said.
Discussions are already taking place with the United Arab Emirates that could operate up to 60 aircraft, and Kuwait also seems interested. France further talks with Malaysia for a market of 16 Rafale, according to a source familiar with the matter. (Gregory Blachier)
