A SUB-MAY 1ST THE SIGN OF THE UNION DISUNION
PARIS (Reuters) – Thousands of people marched Friday in Paris and several provincial cities against “austerity” at the 1st- May marked once again by the union disunity face economic choice of Francois Hollande.
The CGT, FSU, Solidaires and Unsa walked side by side in Paris, under the drizzle behind a banner proclaiming: “International solidarity of workers for peace, progress and social justice No to austerity.”
Workers Force, whose Secretary General Jean-Claude Mailly was meeting in Bordeaux. and the CFDT, which upset the tradition by organizing a gathering in Paris for young people, the “Working Time Festival”, were not of the procession.
The law for the growth and activity of Economy Minister Emmanuel Macron was particularly targeted by protesters who chanted “Macron it’s all good for the bosses”
<. p> In Toulouse, in particular, the protesters were from 2,000 to 4,000.
Luc Berille, secretary general of the UNSA, regretted that the French unions give a division of image.
“At least for 1-May, maybe we could do otherwise in trade unionism and provide another image,” said he told reporters. “The French trade unionism is overly dispersed.”
Philippe Martinez, general secretary of the CGT, stressed the need for “unity rally, the unit of employees especially.”
“There needs union diversity but shows that the proliferation of unions do not favor membership,” he added.
“THE WORLD OF THE PAST”
Bernard Thibault, head of the CGT for 14 years, said Friday on Europe 1 that French syndicalism was hampered “both his division and multiplication of actors.”
Replica Jean-Claude Mailly: “Trade union pluralism is a sign of democracy (…) it is something healthy.”
“What workers expect trade unions, n is not necessarily that they are united artificially, it is simply that they respond to their concerns, “said for his part Lawrence Berger, secretary general of the CFDT, on iTELE.
The union leader is cold with Jean-Claude Mailly since the latter was accused of being the “accomplice” of the progress of the National Front preferring the term “rigor” to that of “austerity”.
“We claims a trade union that is open, that is made of proposals and above that is forward looking and does not defend the world from the past,” Laurent Berger released Friday.
For Jean-Luc Mélenchon, former co-chair of the Left Party, mobilization must be amplified against the social-democratic policies of the government.
“Maybe we are not as numerous as expected, but it is there. (…) They know they have a pebble in the shoe, “he has said on the sidelines of the Paris procession
.” This is not a nice event: We came show teeth to say that we are really not happy with what they are doing. That people do it right, but leftists … “
Less than one in two French (45%) consider useful unions and fewer than one in three (31%) think they are representative of employees, according to a poll for Axys Consultants, Le Figaro and BFM Business released Thursday.
