Apple Pay happens but the French still reluctant to pay for a mobile – ZDNet France

The wait was long but Apple just whistle Apple Pay kickoff France, application to pay with his iPhone (6 or 6 Plus) using the NFC contactless technology. Apple has however convinced that the BPCE (Banque Populaire and Caisse d’Epargne), only customers of the bank, holders of Visa credit card, have currently access the service.

the company has also partnered with Carrefour, Apple Pay is the precise sign “now available” in its stores, and “Crossroads Bank for customers” – and card holders PASS MasterCard.

A launch small committee committee reflecting trade conditions imposed by Apple, and the existence of many similar solutions offered by banks partnership with operators like Orange with Cityzi.

Apple may have also noted the lack of enthusiasm of the French mobile users for NFC mobile payments in shops. Despite the widespread use of NFC support into smartphones, and the rise of compatible distribution payment terminals, practice struggling to take off.

A survey conducted in late 2015 and conducted by Opinion and Tilder after announcement of the launch of Orange Cash shows that 81% of respondents do not intend to use the mobile phone as payment. Among them, 45% say they are “not at all” ready to pay with their mobile and 36% say “rather not” ready.

Only 19% of respondents were prepared to pass the course, including 6% to be “quite” ready to use. A rather meager appetite.

The survey overlaps a study showing that only 3% of respondents have conducted a mobile payment in stores and 55% have never touched the mobile payment. 49% of respondents say they are not ready for this service “even if it was as simple as with a credit card.” Only 35% are ready to turn the corner

Mobile payment is held back by two factors:. The lack of payment terminals (TPE) compatible in shops and lack of consumer information. Only 30% of stores are equipped to June 2016 (or 409,000), or used in connection with this equipment rate. It’s little but it is still 40% higher than a year ago.

The government’s goal is to rise to 100% by 2020. Michel Sapin, Minister of Finance and Axelle Lemaire, Secretary of State for Digital and indicated that the deployment of payment terminals accepting contactless payments would be accelerated. Since 1 January 2016, all newly installed terminals in shops are equipped with the contactless function.

Ironically, the number of transactions with NFC payment card jumped 180% in one year (46.5 million). The French are very attached to their cards, even easier to use thanks to NFC (no code for small amounts): So nothing will move them to turn to their iPhone to do the same
