“SwissLeaks” Gad Elmaleh, scapegoat Web – The Obs

"SwissLeaks" Gad Elmaleh, scapegoat Web – The Obs

If there is a name that appears from the case of “SwissLeaks” is that of Gad Elmaleh. The newspaper “ The World” recalled Sunday, Feb. 8 that the French comedian had been among the customers of the Swiss subsidiary of the British bank HSBC. As part of the “Operation SwissLeaks” “Le Monde” had access to more than 100,000 customers banking data, and put the information available to the Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in Washington who shared it with more than 50 other international media.

Among the profiles listed in this file is Gad Elmaleh, who had an account in Geneva “weakly stocked” with a little over 80,000 euros between 2006 and 2007. A substantial sum, but not in relation to all funds: more than 180.6 billion euros have passed through the HSBC accounts . Also according to the daily evening, Gad Elmaleh have rectified the situation with the French tax authorities

However, the impact of this case mars the reputation of actor. The hashtag #GadElmaleh was placed on Monday morning among the trending topics (most shared subjects) of Twitter, alongside #SwissLeaks and #HSBC. Although it is not the only French in question (Jacques Dessange or Christophe Dugarry include cities), it is his name that spring, probably due to its high popularity. But also because Gad Elmaleh turned in a commercial for a bank, a choice that the irony is clear today.

“I dream of a bank that is made especially for me,” he recited in the claims film for LCL. “A bank would think of my interests – yours too – before thinking of his!” The ad, broadcast in early 2014, had already been heavily criticized at the time, to its content at first, then for salary 450,000 euros would have hit the actor . Monday, reply “I dream of a bank” is on everyone’s mind and users adapt to all the sauces.

The other complaint which is made Gad Elmaleh in the light of his account in Switzerland is participation in the troupe Enfoirés, which he joined in 2013. His commitment to Restos du Coeur now seems hypocritical to some.

Some fans are still defending Gad Elmaleh, arguing in particular that the facts are old eight years.
