When Renault reduced staffing … despite the announcements … – Challenges.fr

Good news – trompe l’oeil. Renault will hire a thousand people in France this year, announced Thursday, February 12 Carlos Ghosn, president of the diamond manufacturer, during the presentation of the annual financial results 2014. But beware, this announcement covers promises already made! And the numbers will continue to actually decrease. Behind the announcement effect, the reality is less rosy.

First, the promised jobs include 760 thousand hires promised in 2013. The actual gain is thus … 240. Furthermore, Renault launched in 2013 a workforce reduction plan based on the voluntary 8260 jobs in France until 2016. In the end, the total workforce of the manufacturer in France should fall by 7 people at the very least .200 …

Steady decrease staffing

The workforce reduction is constant in France. Renault is spent ten years 70.600 48.500 people. In ten years, Douai (Scénic production) lost a third of its 4,200 employees, as Cleon (engines, transmissions) in 3300. Flins plant (Clio, Zoe), for its part divided by more than two its workforce to 2,500 people away. As for Sandouville factory formerly group’s flagship is the Berezina.

This Norman site has reduced by 60% the number of employees. I must say it no longer produces 10% of what it assembled there about ten years. The fall in numbers indeed follows the slope of the fabrications. Overall, the French Renault plants produce about half of the cars they were assembling there eight years. And, while the Volkswagen Group increased at the same time its production in the meantime in Germany.

The decision to produce in 2016 the future of the small Micra Nissan ally but Flins also, incidentally, a utility for Fiat in Sandouville will certainly be a significant extra to keep production in France. Flins work and 50% for Nissan. But this is not enough. By signing the agreements competitiveness there almost two years, Renault had agreed to produce a minimum of 710,000 vehicles in France in 2016 … which would represent the only production in the first half of 2005!

Productions outside France

It is true that the new flagship model of the company to the diamond are made outside France. The small “ SUV ” Captur is assembled in Valladolid (Spain). The future “ SUV ” compact Qajar will be in Palencia, also beyond the Pyrenees. As for Dacia, they are mounted on the French market in Romania and Morocco. The Clio is it, made only 40% in Flins, 60% in Turkey.

Renault announced Thursday improved financial results under 2014. With 1.89 billion euros Net income (Group share), Renault exceeds the level of 2012 (1.75 billion) and of course that of 2015 (586 million). Turnover remains stagnant at 41 billion, reflecting particularly unfavorable exchange rates, but the company has improved its profitability since its operating margin increased from 3% in 2013 to 3.9% last year. These good results are relative, however.

Because net income is largely generated by the profits of Nissan. Its Japanese ally has provided a significant extra 1.56 billion! As for the operating margin of the only automotive operations, it is still only 2.2%, which is low in the car. The cash flow (“ free cash flow” operational) automobile business, however positive 1.083 million, particularly due to the increase in operating profitability.

Improvement in 2015

Renault announced in mid-January global sales up 3.2% in 2014 in the world, at 2.7 million units, the renewed growth of the market European enabling it to compensate for setbacks in emerging countries, particularly in South America and Russia.

Renault announced 1.90 euro dividend per share, against 1.72 euro last year. Carlos Ghosn aims for 2015 an increase in registrations and sales (at constant exchange rates), a further improvement in the operating margin of the Group and the automotive business. It is also committed to further generate a “ Cash Flows” of the positive operational automobile.
