Museum of fabrics of Lyon: the region is ready to invest € 5 million – The pharma letter

Anear the State, that is committed Friday to subsidize in part the textile Museum of Lyon is threatened with closure, the region-Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes says it is ready on Saturday to invest five million euros, but without contributing to its operating budget.
“The Region of Auvergne, the Rhone-Alps, even though this is not its core competence, is ready to commit to contribute an investment to the tune of five million euros to develop a project of a nature to bring life to these collections,” wrote its president, Laurent Wauquiez (The Republicans) in a letter addressed to the minister of Culture Audrey Azoulay, dated Friday and sent Saturday to the AFP.
Asked by AFP, the ministry stated Saturday afternoon have not yet received it.
“In this perspective, it is still necessary however, to build a project that is sustainable, that your ministry takes responsibility and is involved in its turn,” adds Mr. Wauquiez in his email.
on Friday, the government took a first step in this folder in negotiations for several months between the State, local authorities and the Chamber of commerce and industry of Lyon.
the ministry of Culture “is willing to commit to help over the three years to come the operation of the museum, to grant equal with the one, respectively, of the city and the region, up to € 300,000 per year,” said Audrey Azoulay in a letter to the prefect of the Rhône.
“The region, it will not go on the operation,” said Saturday at the AFP a counselor of Laurent Wauquiez, considering it as “insufficient” the grant proposed by the State.
“We don’t want to put pressure on the communities, but we request that the State engages in a substantial way,” said the source, insisting on the necessity of”a true leader”, in particular, to encourage private partners to engage.
The operating costs of this institution contains the most beautiful collection of fabrics in the world amounted to between 1.5 and 1.7 million euros per year. A renovation and a modernization of the museum are also necessary.
based in the former capital of silk, this museum has always been managed up to now by the industrial lyonnais, a mode of operation that is unique in France. But in a budgetary context and tense, the ICC does not want to be dependent.
The museum of lyon traces 4,500 years of history, the tunic of linen dating from 2150 bc to the last tissue composites used in aerospace.
