The Romanée-Conti is no longer the most expensive wine in the world – Le Figaro

This is a Burgundy, who took first place, but it is the Richebourg Grand Cru Henri Jayer in Côtes de Nuits. The first Bordeaux Petrus, takes only 18th place in this top 50 wine

Surprise:. The most expensive wine in the world is a Burgundy … but not a Romanée-Conti. A Henri Jayer wine is trading at 15,195 dollars (14,254 euros) bottle of 75 cl. The first wine of Bordeaux, the renowned Petrus, must be content with 18th place, according to a ranking prepared by the specialist online site Wine Searcher.

Wine Searcher, founded in London in 1999, achieved this ranking , updated in early August, the “50 most expensive wines in the world” from the price lists of 54 876 wine merchants, traders and producers in the world, listing more than seven million bottles of wine, all vintages and with a price average per bottle. On their own, Burgundies are an impressive combined attack with three first places, four other wines in the top ten and in total no less than 40 wines on 50!

Two wines from this area on the podium

Henri Jayer, who died in 2006-84 years is a posthumous tribute to his Richebourg Grand Cru, in Côtes de Nuits. This visionary winemaker, icon of Burgundy wines, is even twice on the podium with third in the Cros-Parantoux in Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, a tiny plot of 1.01 hectare (8832 dollars or 8072 euros). Opposed to the use of chemicals, filtration, supporter of plowing vines and low yields (only 3500 bottles a year), inventor of the pre-fermentation cold maceration, he produced a sleek black pinot, a great clarity and great expression.

The most renowned wines of Burgundy, Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Romanée-supplied with Conti Grand Cru the second most expensive bottle in the world (13,314 dollars, 12,169 euros) and is mentioned in total of six wines. The full house of Burgundy is complemented by fifth place with a Domaine Leflaive Montrachet Grand Cru (5726 dollars or 5234 euros).

Two Champagnes in the standings

The prestigious Bordeaux are mentioned only twice and both Pomerol Petrus, Jean-Pierre Moueix, 18th in 2701 dollars (2469 euros) and Le Pin, from Jacques Thienpont, 23rd in 2359 dollars (2156 euros)

One Cotes du Rhone is quoted in 10th position: Ermitage Cuvee Cathelin, Jean-Louis Chave, to 3795 dollars (3469 euros). And two Champagnes. Krug Clos d’Ambonnay in the 24th place in 2253 dollars (2059 euros) and, in the 32nd, Moët et Chandon Dom Perignon P3 Gross Fullness

Germany and California have their Place

Note that two German winemakers, Egon Müller and Joh. Jos. Prüm, each listed twice in the ranking: Egon Müller in fourth place for its Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese Scharzhofberger (semi-dry white wine in 6630 dollars or 6060 euros) and also the 34th for ice wine (Eiswein) and Prüm as seventh for his Sonnenuhr Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese Wehlener (4706 dollars or 4301 euros) and 44th for a Beerenauslese

The only other foreign wine classified, ranked 14th. Californian Napa Valley, Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon, Stanley Kroenke, to 2884 dollars, euros in 2636.
