How Vivendi and Gameloft envisage the evolution of the video game ?

It is thought that in the future the players will be involved especially on the storytelling, rather than of the exploits of individuals – such as pressing the button to shoot better or drive the car. There is a whole universe that will make it appear that such or such character, to see what happens, while being in the subway. The idea, this will be : ” I write the story. “

there is another movement, which is more technology, that of virtual reality. Finally, there is one last, that is a trend of the games more simple and shorter, as can be seen on Facebook, with games embedded in the flow, that allow you to play two, discussing. This is yet another universe. Innovation is not only technological or related to the design. There are several poles.

Gameloft will not follow the mode of e-sports, video game competitions ?

If. We are going to go there, but by Vivendi first. We put a large package on the e-sport. We organize a big tournament mobile on games Gameloft, this will be either on the shooting game Modern Combat, either on the racing game Urban Asphalt, or both.

More broadly, it wants to be a major player in e-sports, not just Gameloft, but Vivendi. The proof of this is that we organize the first championship of France official FIFA 17 at the Olympia, with the final in December. Besides, even without Gameloft, we would have made it.

What is it virtual reality ?

Sixty-ten project suggestions are being examined in Gameloft, of which at least seven or eight will revolve around virtual reality. But I can’t tell you if these are the ones that we remember. Because innovation can come from the VR as something else. The success of Pokémon, for example, this is not virtual reality, but the meeting between a franchise and a technology. The technology alone is useless, like in a movie. It is necessary that the scenario comes with it.

You believe a lot to a video game story ?

I believe very much, at least for an audience. There are not that many, at the present time.

What about all the games in the studio Telltale, close to tv series and interactive ?

Yes, but we can go further. The game Game of Thrones, this is a good start. But the notion of choice whose consequences will persist for two minutes and then disappear, we are no longer there. It is believed that there will be a new public, especially for games adapted franchises.

The outbreak of the scene from the video game independent has allowed the explosion of new experiences of video games original and atypical. Is this a new runway as possible for Gameloft, which is often criticized for its tailism ?

quite. It is for this reason that we have launched a call for projects in-house : it is to create this state of mind. We want teams more self-reliant, and that creativity is more centralized. This is what I asked for. We provide just the means. But we will not impose anything to the teams. It would not work.

Y a-t-he ranges of budget that you may not ?

No. A game may not be at all expensive. The good idea can come from a project of 100 000 as 10 million euros. We don’t know. But the advantage of Vivendi, is that if I have evidence that the game is going to work requires 8 or 9 million, Vivendi will, that would not have been able to do Gameloft.

the evolution of The relations between Vivendi and Ubisoft can influence the evolution of your strategy for Gameloft ?

It is rather the reverse. The beneficial effect of the integration of Gameloft reassures the employees of Ubisoft, who has been promised the worst effects if Vivendi was a little more present, especially in terms of creativity. In truth, it is the reverse that occurs. In addition, these are different situations. For Gameloft, we were in a hurry, we had identified three vertical mobile : the music, the video, and the video game. But we didn’t have to force production to the latter, and it was necessary to go fast. For Ubisoft, it was the time. It is more long term. Moreover, we have not been aggressive to the general assembly. We have 22 % of the company. This is not the same dimension of time.

How much time do you give yourself to see if your strategy on with Gameloft ?

We have not given a deadline. Already on the 70 proposals of games that we currently investigate, if two or three are original and work, as I hope, this will already be.
