TOULOUSE, Jan. 13 (Reuters) – Airbus said on Tuesday forecast a slight increase in deliveries in 2015 after a record 629 aircraft delivered in 2014 to deal with a backlog of 6,386 units, driven by growth in demand around the world.
The Group subsidiary Airbus has shown its commitment to further strengthen the lucrative long-haul market, with a new version of the A321neo, a plane far used for short and medium-haul flights and that will make transatlantic flights by 2019.
The manufacturer, which was holding its annual press conference in Toulouse, also reaffirmed its determination to develop the A380, a super jumbo to the penalty in terms of orders, including new releases, remotorisée and elongated, could be announced at term.
Airbus has increased its deliveries in 2014 compared to 626 in 2013, but stayed for the third year in a row behind Boeing has delivered 723 aircraft last year.
The flagship long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliner, has now reached its production stride while Airbus has just delivered late December the first copy of his plane competitor, the A350.
In the match of orders, Airbus was able to beat his rival as announced by Reuters last week, thanks to a flurry of contracts for 400 aircraft in December.
Airbus reported in a press 1,456 net orders in 2014, a figure down from 1,503 in in 2013 but still enough to exceed the 1,432 orders earned by Boeing last year.
The gross orders before cancellations, totaled 1,796 units, with a total value of $ 231.2 billion to list prices. Boeing announced last week 1,550 gross orders.
Airbus shows a backlog of 6,386 aircraft orders, worth a total of 919.3 billion dollars (777 billion euros) at list prices.
INCREASE RATE
The manufacturer, which rose 3.27% on 1 January the average price catalog of aircraft, is more than ever faced with the need to increase its production.
The chain now stabilized suppliers, Airbus said it could announce the first half increased production of its A320 single-aisle family, which account for most of its orders, after the rise already planned from 42 to 46 from the first quarter of 2016.
Given the need to expand the family before an entirely new aircraft expected to around 2030, Airbus also said that Air Lease Corporation lessor (ALC) would be the launch customer for the long-haul version of its A321neo (new engine version Version remotorisée the single-aisle).
The company Steven Udvar-Hazy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for 30 aircraft of this new A321neo, completing an order for 60 A321neo passed in July 2014 at Farnborough Airshow near London.
The European aircraft manufacturer also intends to continue to deliver about 30 A380 a year, the level in 2014 for its superjumbo, said Fabrice Brégier reporters.
He said that Airbus would study one day alternative options to change the A380, a perspective that is the subject of a consensus between the aircraft manufacturer Airbus and its parent Group.
“We have only one position. I belong to the group, I’m even supposed to be the number two in the group, a number in terms of commercial activity, “he noted at the press conference.
Group Executive Chairman of Airbus, Tom Enders, is assisted by Marwan Lahoud, head of strategy.
Fabrice Brégier also reported discussions about “strategic partnership” with China to develop its production in its Tianjin plant, the only activity outside Europe.
Airbus A320 203 released since 2008 this assembly line for China, its largest market with about 20% of its deliveries. The manufacturer plans to equip its A330 cabins for the Chinese market in Tianjin and to assemble planes to other Asian countries.
The A350-800, the smallest three versions of the A350, Airbus has come out of radar screens for now.
“The A330neo is a better aircraft,” said Fabrice Brégier Reuters, referring to the version remotorisée launched the long haul last year.
“(The A350-800) is frozen permanently waiting to see with new technologies that could give,” he has added.
The action Airbus Group, which fell in December when predicting the group of stable earnings in 2016, gaining 1.98% to 45.84 euros at 15:25 on Euronext Paris , slightly outperforming the CAC 40 index, up 1.54%
