Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, presented Friday, April 17 a plan to fight against racism and anti-Semitism, with € 100 million over three years to deal with the “unbearable” rise in racist acts France.
“Racism, anti-Semitism, hatred of Muslims, foreigners, homophobia increase unbearably in our country,” lamented the Prime Minister in Creteil.
Recalling that the government was “not miss anything,” he insisted that “French Jews were no longer afraid of being Jewish” and that “French Muslims should not be ashamed to be Muslims” .
Words and racist acts in criminal law
“In France worked by populism, our duty is to organize the start,” he added, in recalling that “anti-Semitism, racism, are not opinions but rather offenses.”
He detailed the main measures of the plan centered around justice, school and the Internet.
As wished Hollande, racist words and acts fall under “more of the right of the press but of criminal law”, with appropriate penalties. The aggravating nature of racism and anti-Semitism “will also be part of the criminal law.”
“The passivity on the internet, it’s over,” he added, while the plan provides for the establishment of a ‘unit of fight against hate on the Internet “and to require content hosts to” have legal representation in France. “
Local Actions
The 100 million will be used to fund such a “great communication companion,” but also action at the local level, said Gilles Clavreul the interministerial delegate to the fight against racism and anti-Semitism.
“There will be 25 million per year for the fight against racism policies” as part of the City’s policy, he added.
