SNCF looks at its wage overload – BBC

The budget of the SNCF for 2015 to be presented on Thursday. Unable to reach the status of railway, Guillaume Pepy, CEO of the group, should simply downsize.

This Thursday morning Guillaume Pepy, CEO of SNCF shall on a board the train, the budget for the year 2015. On this occasion, the leader should announce further job cuts by the SNCF through the non-replacement of railwaymen who retire. According to the unions, about 1,500 positions should be challenged in the future Epic SNCF Mobility, activities concerning travelers. Cut in the workforce is clearly the only possible solution to reduce the wage bill of the SNCF.

Asked early November on how the company had curb rising payroll President of SNCF had told Le Figaro “When inflation is close to zero, the dynamics of the wage bill must be reviewed. I will present in December the board our proposals in this direction. ” A report commissioned by the SNCF had indeed revealed in late October that despite a declining enrollment of 25,000 railway in ten years, the payroll of the train was weighed down by € 1.3 billion during the same period.

Untouchable “GVT”

Looking more closely at this “wage overload”, it appeared that the bulk comes from the automatic shift-related changes in the grid of railwaymen wages, “GVT” (slip, old age, in the technical jargon of public service). It weighed 1.9 billion in ten years but was only partially compensated ($ 1.2 billion) by the departures and lower paid youth recruitment. But touching the “GVT” is reviewing the status of railway and declare war on the unions. Since then, Guillaume Pepy has assured the unions that would not affect the status and therefore not the “GVT”.

On Wednesday, a central works council (CEC) was intended to address the issue of employment in 2015 with the trade unions. But they refused that only the perimeter of the Epic Mobility – one of three Epic of SNCF Group in January that will result from the merger with RFF – is detailed. “We want to express ourselves on the numbers of all future public group ferrvoviaire including SNCF network,” says Roger Dillenseger UNSA. The CEC has been postponed to January.
