HSBC renames and restructures its retail bank in the UK – Challenges.fr

LONDON, June 9 (Reuters) – HSBC will change the name of its retail bank in the UK following the split of the activity that the banking group is not even certain to keep

The CEO Stuart Gulliver said that 7,000 to 8,000 jobs would be eliminated in the country, or about one in six, but only by attrition. The “turnover” of HSBC in the UK affects about 3,000 people a year, he said.

The new UK banking regulations require HSBCà separate its retail banking operations in the country of 2019, and according to sources the group could sell them. Stuart Gulliver, in a presentation to investors, said no decision had yet been taken on this.

“The question for us is to keep control dudividende and to ensure that its strategy is complementary to that of the group, “he said.

The British branch, said Stuart Gulliver, will operate under a new name. “We have not yet decided what it will be, we will first consult with clients and staff during the coming months,” he said. (Steve Slater, Veronique Tison for the French service)
