The jewel of the SNCF for years, the TGV is now down. For four years, attendance at high-speed lines constantly falling. It stabilizes just last year. TGV least borrowed, but also less satisfied. 65% of seats held only on average. So to win back passengers, the train takes a turn: that of the low-cost strategy
In 2013, SNCF launches Ouigo, a refined version of the TGV.. Much cheaper tickets, result: trains filled to 95%. “This is a real popular success” , says Rachel Picard, director of SNCF travel. And SNCF do not put that on the rail. Since summer 2015, she embarked on the battle bus. More than four million trips to 46 destinations hoped this year. Target ? Young people and those who no longer have the means to pay the TGV.
