Bolloré has come to the rescue of the electric car by offering Monday deploy 16,000 public charging points in France, where despite government incentives, these vehicles are still struggling to conquer the market.
The Ministry of Economy announced that the diverse group advanced in the rental electric vehicles with solutions such as Autolib in Paris, had filed a case for such a facility, representing investment of € 150 million over four years.
Bercy and the Ministry of Ecology decide to end of January “if this project is recognized on a national scale and therefore exempt from fee for occupying public domain.” And if approved, Bolloré launch in each region consultation on “the precise modalities of implementation” of its charging stations.
This project, like all national dimension projects “that will be validated in the coming months, “are” complementary “to those of local authorities, supported by the future investment program, said the Ministry of Economy.
The law on transition energy, currently being debated in Parliament, plans to reach seven million charge points in 2030.
In May, former Economy Minister, Arnaud Montebourg, had told the National Assembly Bolloré and French electricity giant EDF had expressed interest to become charging stations operators.
Some 9,500 terminals for plug-in electric cars or hybrids exist today in France, according to the president Avere France (National Association for the development of electric mobility), Joseph Beretta.
For his part, Vincent Bollore said Monday AFP that his group had installed 6,000 of these terminals and claimed “almost five million uses per year”
-. A call for vigilance –
“The goal is to cover the territory and there are not a remote terminal of more than 40 km from a point where you are, “added Breton industrial, interviewed on the sidelines of a press conference in Paris. Mr. Beretta has welcomed the announcement of Bercy, saying that “we can only be pleased to see these terminals bloom”
However, he called to be “vigilant” in two areas:. The fact promised that the new terminals are complementary current, and that there “interoperability, that is, a subscriber to a service can be recharged anywhere, even if he does not subscribe to the other service. “
Mesh territory electrical terminals serve in particular to reinforce the potential users of electric cars even though the vast majority of recharging is done at home or in the workplace. “This is reassuring, but it is necessary to develop this market,” according to Beretta.
The limited autonomy of most electric cars (100 to 200 km) is the One of the main obstacles to their development.
Despite many government incentives meant encourage the French to take the plunge, since the beginning of 2014, 8,917 new passenger electric vehicles were registered in France, or 0.54% of the market.
The turnover of the Bolloré subsidiary specializing in energy storage, Blue Solutions, has more than doubled in the first nine months of 2014 compared to the same period of 2013, the company hopes to achieve between 90 and revenues of 100 million euros this year.
But it is still only a niche business within the group, which achieved in 2013 a turnover of more than EUR 10 billion.
In turn, the Observatory of nuclear power, challenging the “clean” nature of electric cars and had trouble with Bolloré about it, called for vigilance.
“It would be the first time that a multinational would embark on a major project without the assurance of making comfortable profits, “warned the organization, claiming” full transparency on the contract will be proposed to Bolloré “by the authorities.
