Soon the end of the white areas? A partnership between the French Space Agency (CNES) and Google is expected to connect to the Internet across the globe

A balloon of hope

The Loon Google project. – Shortcut “balloon” (in English balloon) is to send balloons drifting fleets in the stratosphere to provide Internet access to areas flown. Often areas too difficles access or too costly to be connected by land to the internet. Given that access to the web via this method would cost up to a thousand times cheaper than a satellite.

30 balloons have been launched in New Zealand in 2013. But Google, seduced by the expertise of French on stratospheric balloons and long flights, according to Le Figaro signed on Thursday a partnership with CNES agreement to go even higher in the project, according to the BBC website.

100 balloons in 2015

“The CNES will help Google to develop its expertise in analyzing the flights and design a new generation of ball to Loon project. In exchange, the results of tests conducted by Google in New Zealand and Brazil, and those of the new 2015 campaign – 100 balloons must derive all around the world – will be shared with CNES “ says Google in Le Figaro .
