Angers, Maine-et-Loire (Reuters) – Francois Hollande on Friday urged French industrialists to invest heavily in the development of “connected objects”, a market estimated at 15 billion euros by 2020 nationally and 300 billion worldwide.
The French president was speaking at the inauguration of the City of the Connected Object (Coc) in Angers (Maine-et-Loire), a “Industrial accelerator” which aims to work together traditional industries and digital technology.
Coc already associates 17 companies, including major groups such as Orange, Bouygues or mutual harmony.
“When walking is fast, those who win are those who are able to accelerate,” said he said.
“There is always a melancholy trend in France, believing that it was better before, and doubt our abilities and our forces, “he added. “But when I see that among the twelve best selling items online in the US five are French, I do not doubt, I know that France will be one of the first economies in the world in digital.”
Francois Hollande also spoke of the future “Digital Act” board on which the government, which will have to decide the delicate question of respect for private life.
“This law will find this balance between what is necessary for that innovators can have information, and what is essential for everyone to keep secret its own information, when they concern his privacy, “he insisted.
The City of the Object Connected together, on the same site of 8,300 m2, workspaces for businesses and start-ups, machinery production and laboratory tests. Twenty innovative projects are already about to be welcomed, while Coc hopes to welcome 170 in the next three years.
