Panama Papers: Holland warns Panama – The Point

François Hollande “strongly encouraged” Friday, Panama “to respond to requests for information from the French tax authorities”, after the case of Panama Papers on suspicion of tax evasion, said the Elysee in a statement. Francois Hollande, who spoke by telephone with the President of Panama Juan Carlos Varela, “emphasized the commitments made by States to pass, as soon as possible, the automatic exchange of information between tax administrations” the statement said.

He said the Panamanian president “the reasons that justified the reinstatement of Panama on the French list of States and non-cooperative jurisdictions (ETNC)”. Hollande has also “confirmed that France had requested the holding of a meeting next week of the OECD high-level experts to work on coordinated action by tax authorities following the information revealed in the international press.”

Vast scandal

Bercy has also announced Friday it has reinstated Panama on its list of tax havens. In a decree, the finance minister Michel Sapin and Secretary of State for the Budget Christian Eckert “added Panama to the list for 2016 of States and non-cooperative jurisdictions (ETNC),” the Finance Ministry said in a statement.

the survey of Panama Papers, which uncovered a vast scandal of fraud and tax exile transiting Panamanian companies, involves several French personalities like former footballer Michel Platini, the former Minister Jerome Cahuzac, MP Patrick Balkany, Jean-Marie Le Pen, founder of the National Front, or Frédéric Chatillon, near Marine Le Pen.
