Flam project: an allowance to encourage the consumption of fruits and vegetables – Le Figaro

To remedy this problem, the Ministry of Health launched the project “Flam” (Fruits and vegetables at home) which aims to encourage the consumption of fruits and vegetables in the town of Saint-Denis, near Paris.

That’s why a hundred disadvantaged families consisting of at least one child between three and ten years were selected by associations to receive vouchers worth up 16 to 24 euros per month in order to buy fruit and vegetables. These good buying used both in supermarkets in Saint-Denis as among market vendors can be used to buy fresh, frozen or even canned and stewed.

More than project, “Flam” wants to be a real study. Indeed, the goal is “to observe whether the fact of lifting the financial bounds will actually encourage the purchase and consumption within families,” it said on the website of the city of Saint-Denis. A follow-up will be conducted with selected families who will answer three questionnaires about their way of consuming food at the beginning, middle and end of the study (after one year). If successful, the operation could be sustained and extended to other cities.

To accompany families, cooking workshops are set up in community centers. The presence of a dietician-nutritionist helps provide more information to parents and children and provide them with guidance on food balance. It remains to wait for the first results. If it is positive, genuine allocation fruits and vegetables could be created to promote the “healthy eating”.
