Consumption: the price of fruit and vegetables fell this summer! – Boursier.com

(Boursier.com) – Finally some good news for the wallet … This summer, the average prices of fruit and vegetables fell by 12% and 3% respectively compared to the same period in 2013, according to the last observatory ‘Rural Families. Recall that last year they had soared by 14% and 17%.



Good weather conditions

“Full production season and particularly favorable weather conditions are explanations of this trend, “said the observatory. In detail, between July 2013 and July 2014, the largest price declines were recorded for peaches (-29%), apples (28%), melons (-26%), nectarines (-23%) or yet apricots (-19%). As for vegetables, salads and zucchini saw their rates fall by 15%, while those carrots were down 14%. Conversely, cherries, peppers, potatoes and tomatoes are slightly more expensive than in July 2013.
