Marked improvement in consumer confidence in May (INSEE) – Le Figaro

Consumer confidence has improved markedly in France in May to its highest level since October 2007, although it remains below its average long-term, according to data released Friday by INSEE.

in May, households’ opinion about their past personal financial situation is stable for the fourth consecutive month. However, their opinion on their future financial situation improves significantly, the corresponding balance earning 4 points. Both deals, however, remain below their long term average.

The proportion of households finding it appropriate to make major purchases increased significantly, the corresponding balance winning 7 points and progressing over its long-term average. The household balance of opinion on their saving capacity is stable, its average long-term level. However, the one concerning their future saving capacity decreases (? 2 points) and returns slightly below its long term average.

Households are more numerous than in April estimating that it is appropriate to spare (three points), the balance regaining its level in March, significantly lower though its long-term average. Households’ opinion about future living standards in France improved significantly (+9 points), like that of the past standard of living (10 points).
