Major order for shipyards in Saint-Nazaire – The Point

Good news for shipyards in Saint-Nazaire. A “large order” which could involve four ships for a total of nearly 4 billion euros will be announced on Wednesday afternoon at the Elysee did to sources close to the matter. New confirmed by the spokesman of the government, Stéphane Le Foll.

It is “the ringing confirmation of the realm of contracts to be valued at four billion euros for the construction of four ships” said Le Foll when the report of the Council of Ministers. He said the order placed by the international company MSC Cruises was an expense plan until 2026. “This is a very important news, very good news for the shipyards in Saint-Nazaire,” said Stephane Le Foll, noting that the company was “on the brink of bankruptcy” in 2012.

Twelve ships already built

the order must be formalized on the occasion of a meeting between François Hollande and officials cruise line MSC and STX France (shipyards), where the government holds 33%. Press information forward an amount from 3.6 billion to 4 billion euros and the maintenance of thousands of jobs over the next decade.

François Hollande, visiting Saint-Nazaire for the presidential campaign in 2012, had pledged to save the Chantiers de l’Atlantique, then in trouble. MSC, the fourth largest cruise company, is already navigating twelve ships, all built in Saint-Nazaire.
