A European agreement on Greece signed the day before the national holiday. An international agreement on Iran signed at the same time the traditional military parade on 14 July: it is a Hollande once pushed by favorable winds Tuesday responded to the questions of his interviewers TF1 and France 2. He knows that the French are not determined in favor of a man according to his successes, nor his failures, moreover, in terms of foreign policy. Nevertheless: it is better for him that Greece was not expelled from the euro zone. The first, and indeed virtually alone among the great French political leaders have shown a willingness to do everything to avoid a Grexit would have paid dearly for the ouster of Greece.
Francois Hollande can rejoice today that its hard to reconcile points of view and conflicting interests have almost won, by unanimous vote of eighteen countries of the eurozone. He did, of course, in his speech, but avoiding both humility and triumphalism. No triumphalism against those who, in Europe, envisaged for five years or more, a Greek exit from the eurozone. Rather, it was for Angela Merkel a few personal words in his mouth, and given to the Franco-German assurances that are not only formal. No triumphalism not against anyone, right, in France, Alain Juppé to Nicolas Sarkozy, had adopted changing points of view on negotiation in Brussels, and now welcome the preserved unity Europe. However, I bet, be it said in parenthesis, that Francois Hollande will not soon forget the words that were addressed to him from Brussels even the hottest days and the longest of the Greek negotiation by Nicolas Sarkozy, asking him to to “recover”.
Holland works his presidential stature
Without excessive humility either. Indeed, he recounted, with obvious pleasure, how he said to Alexis Tsipras, the day after the Greek referendum which he, Holland, had not approved the holding: “Help me to help you. “Behind the familiarity, the president has shown the existence of a common will to France and Greece, will that finally won the case in Brussels. It was a way for him to remind the French left for all in favor of keeping the country in the euro Alexis Tsipras, he had not only heard but also heard his views in the European marathon of negotiations.
This introduction in Brussels and Iran fell steeply to give Hollande a chance to don his coat president. His opponents, and even some of his friends, often accuse him, as the saying goes, not to “make President,” and that, despite times when its presidential action was obvious, military involvement in Mali or conversations with Vladimir Putin to Minsk, for example. Failing to “make President” – there always will be enough for some, right, and too much for others, left – François Hollande has chosen to invest in this interview which, through France 2 and TF1, addressed primarily to the French, in two areas now become eminently sovereign and probably related: security and identity
Security and Identity
A. large part of his speech has been restricted for security, which he reiterated today it was mobilizing 30,000 men and that this would continue at least through 2015 and perhaps beyond, in the fight against terrorism. Another part of the interview, no less important, was devoted to what he called the “idea” or “the soul of France” without wanting user of “identity” too tied to the right into the spirit of Francois Hollande. Hollande also gave back the word “homeland” he had used the day before, during a speech at the Ministry of Defence. The word is not common in the vocabulary of the Socialist Party, which sometimes confuses patriotism and ringardisme. The use of the word “homeland” is not innocent: it is for him to emphasize its image of France, a France open, not enclosed, not “stunted”
. security and homeland, these two words, Hollande today opposes those who seized the concept, blur also elsewhere, identity while facing the threat that: openness, immigration, migration, globalization. For the rest, the speech of François Hollande holds no surprise. He faces growth, present, but too weak; he advocates for laws, pact of responsibility and Macron law among others, that allow, he said, greater flexibility in the mechanisms of work in France; it confirms the charges decreases for companies, which is a way to consider that the internal fights to the PS on the subject have already been exceeded. And, of course, no surprise there as he answers the question that could not fail to be laid on him a possible candidacy in 2017: this is not the time, two years still separate him from that date. While affirming, more clearly than it has already done, it will not run if the unemployment curve is not reversed. It has only very little time to get there.
