President of the Eurogroup, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, Monday urged Greece to get down quickly to his reforms, by dangling a potential first installment of funds . with its partners from the month of March, when “progress”
“My message to the Greeks is: try to start the program before the end of any renegotiation,” said M . Dijsselbloem, leader of the finance ministers of the eurozone, the Financial Times. “There are things you can do right now. If you do, then at some point in March it may perhaps be a first installment. But this assumes progress, not just intentions.”
The partners of Greece agreed last week to extend their four-month program of aid to the country but said the funds due to the title – some 7 billion – would not be paid before April, when they want to judge the progress of reforms promised by the government of Alexis Tsipras.
However, Greece is facing significant financial deadlines in March, particularly with respect International Monetary Fund (IMF), it will be difficult to meet.
In this connection the German finance minister, Wolfgang Schäuble, said in an interview with German public television ARD that Sunday night Greece was committed to “fully and timely meet its commitments.”
“As soon as the first payment is not made on time, we are in a situation that is called a failure, “he warned. And this, the Greek Finance Minister, Yanis Varoufakis, “must know, it is the finance minister (…) and is a professor of economics,” said the great German silversmith. “In his place I would not take that responsibility,” concluded Mr Schäuble.
