Labor law: new wave of mobilization – Liberation

Quiet and (re) mobilization. That’s what seven unions (CGT, Solidaires, FSU, UNEF, UNL and Fidl) yearn for the opportunity to two new days of mobilization against these labor law Tuesday and Thursday. The calm, because the last rallies against the project led by Myriam El Khomri were marked by excesses, particularly in Rennes. (Re) mobilization, since organizations intend to reinvigorate and going to a movement that gives big signs of fatigue: only 55,000 people attended the event last Thursday against nearly 400,000 on March 31.

the unions will juggle these two issues in order to reach their goal: the withdrawal of the text. Despite its adoption – thanks to 49.3 – the first reading in the National Assembly. The involvement of so far remained professions back, truckers in mind, could revitalize the movement, let alone seriously disrupt transportation in France, the strike being renewable and extended to the RATP, airports or at the train .

Why these two new days of mobilization?

these are the sixth and seventh days of mobilization carried by the Inter (excluding ‘reformist’ unions). The name of the statement issued by the confederations – “! Amplifier mobilization against the denial of democracy” – is revealing: they demand the withdrawal of the bill but also denounce the use of 49.3, judged “dramatic” Jean-Claude Mailly, general secretary of FO. With events planned in Paris and strikes in several sectors (road, railway, factors …) started for most Monday night, the unions do not despair restore a balance of power with the government, while avoiding overflows possible.

What criticize new mobilized?

Many professions have joined the movement, including truck drivers. Knowing their capacity for harm, not good news for the executive. It is Article 2 of the law concerning working time, that criticize the unions concerned (FO, CGT and SUD). Involved, the impact on overtime, which road are attached, since, as explained FO, they “integral part of [their] salary.” According to the union, the law would their employers, via an enterprise agreement, reduce the remuneration of such overtime at 10% (against 25% to 50% now). The secretary general of the CGT Transport, Jerome Truth, ensures that such a reform would be “1300 euros less [per year] on the payslip” a driver working 200 hours per month . So once again the famous (and hated) “inversion of the hierarchy of norms” – giving primacy to the company agreement in relation to that branch – which tenses. On Monday evening, the profession was on strike, with blockages in the North and in Nantes, Marseille, Bordeaux and Caen. Dockers, factors and airports will do the same on Tuesday, and this, of renewable way. At the call of the CGT, the RATP is also on strike on Tuesday.

These mobilizations do they concern the labor law?

No. These strikes are certainly related to the El Khomri law, but they are also echoes of the claims brought by each sector for a long time. Thus, the railway hear influence ongoing negotiations on their working conditions. As part of the full opening of rail traffic to competition, scheduled in 2026, SNCF wants to negotiate a collective agreement in conditions deemed unsatisfactory by the unions. The CGT Cheminots therefore called not to work on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, while SUD Rail wants a cessation of activity every day from Tuesday. Its short notice until July 11

can unions hit a big shot …

Many professional sectors have announced their participation. And despite a recent decline in mobilization, unions can count on the parliamentary calendar to keep pressure: the legislation should be voted in the Senate on June 28 He would then return to the Assembly (with possible double use 49.3 of a possible deposit of one or more motions of censure) for final adoption end of July. union side, hope it keeps recalling that the law on the CPE was withdrawn in 2006 after its adoption.

… without causing overflows?

The latest rallies have led their share of violence by the police and some demonstrators. It will be for the unions to ensure that those this week will not degenerate to avoid discrediting the movement. But the desire to do battle could be present in some demonstrators for the first time on behalf of the state of emergency, the orders were issued by the Paris Prefecture of Police to prohibit several militants collective “antifascist Action-Paris Suburbs” scroll to come, but also to travel around the Republic square, home of Night standing. According to the website Buzzfeed, a journalist even received a “banishment”. His favorite subject? Police violence. His lawyer filed a referred to the administrative court, which was to be examined Tuesday morning.
