Brussels was preparing Sunday morning to accommodate some 15,000 people during the afternoon for the “march against terror and hatred.” The procession will start at 14h at the North Station, go through the Exchange and will end on the place Fontainas, where families of victims, rescuers and members of the Brussels Airport staff will speak. A free taxi shuttle service from the Heysel and towards the North Station will be set up between 13h and 14h. The return will also be provided from the Place Rouppe between 16h and 18h.
The march, organized in response to the attacks in Brussels on March 22, killing 32 dead and hundreds injured, was originally scheduled March 27 but was postponed after a warning by the authorities to “a possible threat”.
Sunday, participants will start at 14h of the gare du Nord towards Yser. The victims of the attacks and their families will occupy the forefront, followed by representatives of different religious communities. The procession will borrow the boulevards of Dixmude and the 9th Line along the canal before joining the Dansaert Orts streets and then the Place de la Bourse, where people who wish can meditate. It will then continue to the place Fontainas, where speeches will be made around 16:30.
More than 160 organizations will be present. More than 15,000 participants are expected by the police, who did not wish that walking terminated on the Place de la Bourse, whose capacity is limited to 5,000 people.
For reasons of safety, the bags will be prohibited throughout the procession and he asked the participants to carry with them their documents and personal effects.
