Volkswagen hold in August on the French market – Le Figaro

Volkswagen registrations in France fell by 8% in August, in a market up 6.7%. The German group is losing market share since the beginning of the year, a result of the scandal “dieselgate.”

Summer sullen for Volkswagen. Registrations of German group of new cars fell by 8% in August in France, with 13,173 units. Since the beginning of the year, they increase modestly by 0.3% to 167,315 cars. However, this slight increase reflects a loss of market share to the manufacturer, all manufacturers at the same time advancing 6.1%.

In the first eight months of 2015, Volkswagen registrations represented 13.3% of the total market. Since the beginning of the year, they dropped to 12.55%. This decline is undoubtedly the consequence of the scandal “dieselgate” Volkswagen has recognized in September 2015 have installed a faker software in 11 million of its diesel engines in the world. The scandal has already cost more than 16 billion euros to the German giant, provisioned in its accounts in 2015 and the first half of 2016.

“The solutions to ensure his car cheap

He also dented its image among consumers, resulting in its current commercial performance. As proof that these difficulties are a result of the scandal, they concern only the Volkswagen brand. In August, registrations of the general brand of the German manufacturer has thus declined 18.6%. Conversely, all other brands are growing: Audi is + 6.8% to + 9.3% Seat, Skoda at Porsche or 4.8% to + 19.1%. And movements are observing similar figures in France since the beginning of the year.

However, the losses of market share are not (yet?) A real threat to Volkswagen. The manufacturer remains number three in the French market, behind PSA and Renault, far ahead of number four, the BMW Group which owns 4.2% of the French market. Especially, the scandal is still recent. It is too early to say whether the consequences will be lasting for the first European manufacturer.
