Var: 186,624 euros in fines for staying closed July 14 – The Point

A dozen traders Large shopping center Var, La Valette-du-Var, near Toulon (Var), was sanctioned by astronomical fines, up to 186,624 euros for one of them to failure to open on July 14, told AFP one of these traders.

this trader, manager of a tobacco, one of the twelve affected about 60 of the center commercial, was given a slate of 72,576 euros calculated at 10 euros per m2 every five minutes, on an hourly amplitude of 10 hours.

The operator of a brewery was the most heavily penalized with a fine of 186,624 euros.

The fines, decided by the economic interest group which manages the mall , must be settled by the end of August, according to the letter received by traders.

“We do not contest the principle of the fine,” said Patrick Sohier, manager of the Bodeguita del Cigar. “But we did not think that the regulation could be applied to a full day, we thought he was done for the businesses that are closing 5 or 10 minutes before.”

According to this trader this regulation was passed last year during a general meeting of the EIG who administers this mall and it was published in the back of a brochure advertising the events of this mall. Some traders, aggrieved, decided to consult lawyers to consider the follow-up to the case, according to tobacco manager. The operator of the brewery itself put an online petition that has collected nearly 1,300 signatures of support.

The management of GIE Grand Var, operator of the shopping center, could not be reached Wednesday. According Var-Matin, who revealed this information, management had indicated that “it was not normal that traders do not comply with the opening days that were passed in general meeting.”
