Unemployment is falling throughout Europe, except France – Le Figaro

COMPUTER GRAPHICS – Despite a change in the classification mode, unemployment has continued to rise in June With 5.70 million unemployed, France is the worst student in the European Union.

This is a change in the unemployed count method is timely, but that may be controversial, even in the heart of summer. Employment center has transferred part of jobseekers in category A – one that is most scrutinized by observers – to categories D and E, where they are regarded in the nomenclature as not looking for work . And here at once eliminated 10,000 people statistics identifying job seekers without any activity. Thus allowing the Ministry of Labour announced Monday evening an increase of only 1 300 more unemployed in Category A.

These employment center classification changes do not change the situation anyway. Because you have to face the facts: unemployment continues to rise in France. Even recalculated with criteria “refined” ranking, the figures of June given by the Ministry of Labour confirm: the 4.7% of job seekers in category A over one year in France (a total 3.55 million people) are without doubt a poor indicator. And with an almost continuous rise in unemployment (33 months from the beginning of the quinquennium Francois Hollande), France now lags behind Europe, while in the main European countries, under the effective public policy effect, it began to drop.

On average in the 28 countries of the European Union, it decreases: between May 2012 and May 2015, the rate increased from 10.4% 9.6%. Not in France. According to Eurostat, in May 2015 the unemployment rate stood at 10.3% in France, while in 2012 it posted 9.7%. It is certainly less dramatic than in Greece where in April it reached 26.5% of the workforce. But in Sweden, the UK or Germany, rates go down.

Given the trend, the government is not yet at dawn to announce the good news of the reversal of the curve of unemployment. That Francois Hollande promised the French to end 2013 and pushed without success in 2014, and to which he now determines his candidacy for a second term.

unemployed over 50 years and an increasing number of long-term

But unfortunately for the French, the trends remain poor in many indicators. The number of registrations increased by 0.6% in June and 8.5% in one year for the 50 and over in France. In categories A, B and C, it also rises from 0.5% in June and 10.8% in one year for people looking for a job for over a year, and even 1 4% and 19% of registered unemployed for more than 3 years …

On closer examination, however, other figures may presage leave a slight improvement for France. Because with 1300 additional registered in category A – 11,300 even if the methods had not been changed – the score is probably less sad than 16,200 + May + 26 200 or April. Already, François Rebsamen, Labour Minister now states that “the positive developments of recent months several indicators reflect the improved economic environment (…) and more generally of our policies to support job creation.” Except that these costly employment support policies such as the future jobs, signing bonuses or referrals to training have very often a temporary effect on the figures. When will, therefore, the next change of method?
