Auchan-U System project soon Competition – News – Reuters

PARIS May 14 (Reuters) – The merger between Auchan and Système U has been submitted to the European Commission in March and will be transmitted shortly to the Competition Authority, reports Le Figaro in its Friday edition .

project, the paper writes, is “beyond cooperation in the purchase and exchange of project signs mentioned end January.”

The merger will create a shared governance entity. “If we focus our hypermarkets and our supermarkets, it is essential to create a joint venture or strategic alliance committee to organize joint governance,” said Serge Papin, Système U president.

According to Le Figaro, Auchan and Système U, respectively numbers five and six of the distribution in France, are considering a committee composed of four représenants each group.

While the two groups said in February will look for synergies in the organization of networks, these could be streamlined. The 70 Hyper U pass under Auchan pavilion and 247 Simply Market of Yankee Group become franchises under the brand Super U.

Finally, the two groups would create a central common purchase, thus going beyond the approximation made in September to manage their procurement operations of major international and national brands.

“It will aim to buy everything for the two groups,” says Serge Papin at Figaro, which evokes an amount of total activity of 50 billion euros.

The Competition Authority recently estimated that alliances between central purchasing several distributors showed competitive risks and requested corrections. (See)
